Hello Mr Postman

The postman has made a couple of visits in the past few days!

Firstly Hayley (Robbo3) & i ordered 'some' stuff from Bubba Earth. We got 5m each of hemp fleece (well....its like $18 a meter, but if you get 10m its only $10.50 so it cost us the same as just getting a couple of metres each really) & i got some overlocking thread, sewing machine needles, velcro, 2 ring slings (cause i need another sling) & some lastin - here it all is:

Then i got some stuff from a co-op. A couple of metres of black madden mills micro fleece (feels pruudy) & some bright red sherpa:

Another Trip to Spotlight

I just cant help myself! I think i have much more material than i will ever need, but somehow i just want more! Heres some flannel prints i picked up just in case my first honeyboy attempt is successful & i decide to give it another go:

& heres some fleece i got for the outer layer on a pocket or two:

No Power - OMG!

OK, well...today we had a 12 hour blackout! FUN!!! I didn't have a car either cause DH was at work & we only have one, so I couldn't even go spend all his hard earned money at the shops!!!

Anyway, the blackout finally gave me the courage to start on the honeyboy nappy Ive been planning to make. I bought the pattern a while ago but Ive been to scared to do anything with it. So today i cut the pattern out & cut out some of the material. I cut the inner layer of flannelet, the hidden layer of PUL (which isn't in the pattern - I'm breaking the rules already!) & the outer layer of micro-fleece. I also cut out 5 layers of microfiber for the booster & the 2 coordinating layers of flannelet for the booster as well & the deco-tabs.

So its a start. Now i need to figure out what to use as the inner layer (that apparently stabilises the nappy? think I'm meant to use nappy flannel - is that different to normal flannel?) and a couple more layers for the absorbent bit maybe, I'm considering a layer of hemp but I'm not sure just yet cause I don't want it to take to long to dry.

Anyway, cause i love pictures, heres what Ive done so far:

I got the PUL (the white layer) from bubba earth & I love it as a hidden layer, it looks a little rubbery but its so easy to sew!

The power finally came back on tonight at about 10 so Ive been fulfilling the urge Ive had to chat on NC all day today! oh, & now i have to put the washing through the machine again cause the power went out half way through - not that i can hang it on the line anyway, its still pissing down!

The blackout made me wonder what mums that bottle feed do, especially if they have electric stove tops - must make it hard to sterilise all your bottles & warm up formula. Just one more reason why breastfeeding rules!!!

HoneyBoy?!?

Ok, i **think** I'm going to attempt to make a honeyboy nappy, not sure if i have the guts to do it yet, but I'm considering it!

I ordered the pattern a little while ago from the wee wuns. Heres what I'm going to use - the pattern is there of course & i will be using the orange microfleece i have as an outer & the blue jungle animals flannelet as an inner. Ill also be using a hidden layer of white PUL that i have & ill need to get some velcro & interfacing maybe - im getting flusterd just thinking about it!!!
i think the deco tabs will have something like this on them:

wish me luck!!!

Spotlight Purchase

I went to visit spotlight & this is what i picked up:

55cm of Chamois (think that's how you spell it). Hoping it will work kinda like suede cloth as a nappy inner.
50 cm of Corduroy for the back of liners to keep them in place

55 cm of cute flannelet with jungle animals on it, hopefully ill make a honeyboy out of this one

55cm of flannelet with sheep on it, just got this one really cause i want to see if the spotlight flannelet is ok - ill see how it goes, not sure what it will become yet!

Material, Material & more Material

I ordered some material through a co-op & i received a package yesterday & today - lucky me!!!

Heres a pic of the PUL i received yesterday. i just got 50cm but its over 2m wide! The part on the left side of the pic is the outer bit of the material, its kinda ribbed & the bit on the right is the inner, its quite rubbery, think ill use it as an inner layer.

Next up (in the same package) is some blue microfibre, think i got about 2m of this one:

Then today i received some yummy orange velour & microfleece - 2m of each. This is a pic of the velour:
& heres the microfleece, this one has been through the wash once already:

Think ill have to make a pocket with orange velour inner & microfleece outer & a PUL hidden layer, although if i do that DH is going to have absolutly no idea which side is which ;)

Am i really going to try to make a nappy myself???

At the beginning of this month spotlight had a 20% off sale - so i thought why not spend all my husbands well earned money on a sewing machine!!! well....a why not could be that i have never sewn anything in my life...oh, except there was that one jumper i made in highschool that had holes for my thumbs to stick out (not sure if that was on purpose?!?). So in the end i bought it!

Seeing some of the fabulous nappys that people were making for themselves on nappycino, i decided i would give it a go, so I put in an order at nappys covered & ordered enough to make 2 pocket nappys & ive printed off the wee weka pattern. Havent actually done anything else yet, but i am thinking about it!!!

stay tuned to see if it is a total disastor of if i actually make a working nappy...
