Back to Suburbia!
Friday, 18 April 2008
Well, were back from the farm. We've actually been back for a week...Ive just been really lazy :D

Rocky's dad has a motorbike up there to help round up the cows (or something) which Jet was absolutely fascinated with, even before he got to ride it. His grandpa took him on a little ride around & be loved it! he does this thing where he goes "owwwwwwwwww" when he sees or does something exciting & his mouth makes an O shape, well, after the bike ride he kept that face for about 20 mins!!!
& of course Rocky had to have a go as well:
& just for fun here's a pic of me & Jet:
Jet wasn't happy when we had to leave:
Luckily we didn't see any snakes or spiders or anything else scary on this trip - few!

Jet's First Ice Cream
Wednesday, 19 March 2008
We had quite a busy weekend (so busy that I'm only getting around to writing about it on wednesday!). On Saturday i went to a hens party, it was an all day winery tour in the hunter valley which was really lovely. I was a bit scared about going for two reasons - 1. I think since i got pregnant with Jet the total amount of alcohol i've drunk wouldn't be more than 3 glasses of red wine & 2. Ive never spent a whole day away from Jet - i know, i know, he's 15 months already, but he's still my baby *sniff*, that & he is still breastfed so i wasn't really sure how he would take it. It all went really well though, I stopped "tasting" when the room started spinning at around 3pm & by the time we got home i was sober (lol, think it only took 2 1/2 glasses over 5 hours to get me tipsy!) & jet was fine without me ofcourse, although he was a bit clingy the next day.
Sunday we went to Jet's cousin's (well, rocky's cousins son) 1st birthday party which was great fun! There were loads of kids there, a jumping castle, a little kiddy's pool & a play gym thingy with a slippery slide. Jet had an absolute ball! We generally don't like Jet eating junk food or fizzy drinks. He pretty much survives off breast milk, water, fruit, veggies, bread & meat with the odd cracker thrown in here & there. But having said that, I'm ok with him having less than healthy food at birthday parties, so in the spirit of partying, jet managed to get his hands on his first ever ice cream - do you think he liked it?
He did learn a valuable lesson though, while everyone tells you sharing is good, sharing with daddy is most definitely not good - he steals half your ice cream!!!
He also managed to score some birthday cake & a couple of smarties which he was very pleased with, ofcourse he is well aware how yummy chocolate is because he was introduced to the flavour in utero & receives it often through breast milk :D

Jets Second Hair Cut
Tuesday, 18 March 2008
Just before Christmas Jet got his first ever hair cut. We took him to a hair dresser & it was just a basic trim, i had to stick him on the boob to finish it, was the only way to keep him still!!! (yet another fantastic benefit of breastfeeding!). Last week we decided to give him another one, we used the clippers (you know...so we didn't end up stabbing him with the scissors or something horrible like that) & i had images in my head of him cracking it half way through & having this awful hair cut that he wouldn't let us fix....but he was actually really good.
He seemed quite intrigued by the feel & sound of the clippers buzzing away on his head, he just leaned his head forward a bit & stayed really still, for most of it anyway! i didn't really manage to get his side burns short enough. I didn't want to take of the clipper head in case i ended up taking a whole section out of the front or something & i definitely didn't want to use scissors, so they are a little long. But since his hair is blond you can only tell when your up close, so...I'm just going to leave it!
I gave it a second go a day or so later because the clippers didn't do a very even job the first time, i guess because his hair was so fine & it wouldn't go through them properly. Once his hair was shorter (& spikier) the clippers did a more even job. Anyway, here's some before & after pics.
A couple of days before:

A couple of days later:

Its amazing how much difference a hair cut can make, he looks so grown up now (& like such a cheeky little ratbag!). I cant believe my baby is growing up so quickly!

I'm in the Top 100 Australian Women Bloggers
Tuesday, 11 March 2008
....well, just anyway. I'm actually number 100, but that's kinda special in itself don't ya recon? I'm stoked anyway! Its really weird, i spent about 6 months & one or two hundred bucks (that i earned from paid posts mind you) on trying to increase my blogs popularity & page rank, & while i made quite a few new blogging buddies my page rank didn't budge at all. Now all of a sudden my page rank has jumped to 3 (was lucky if it said -0 before) & Ive been mentioned on a couple of other fantastic sites which is just amazing. Now i have a whole lot more paid post opportunities that have opened up to me too which is great too - more money to spend on eBay & cloth nappies!!! :D
I'm also very honoured to be listed as one of Jodie from Nappies Covered fave blogs! She runs a fantastic online store where you can buy anything you could ever want related to making cloth nappies all in the one place. She has lots of really cute fabrics that i often drool over. Unfortunately i haven't had much time to get my sewing machine out lately, but I'm hoping that ill get a bit more sewing done soon.
So anyway thanks to everyone that has linked to me, i greatly appreciate it. I'm not sure how long my google page rank will stay at 3 for, lol - i keep looking at it expecting it to drop back to 0 any minute, but ill enjoy it while I'm here!

A Bit of a Break
Monday, 18 February 2008
Hi All,
Just wanted to let you know, in case you hadn't figured it already from my total lack of blogging recently, that I'm taking a break. See...i totally suck at this whole house wife thing, cooking, cleaning...its all a bit of a struggle for me. But i decided i better start "learning" how to do it while i only have one bub & an apartment to look after otherwise before i know it ill have 5 kids running around in a messy house eating out of cans!
Ive started a goals book. At the end of it Ive written down all the goals i want to achieve & all the things i want to be doing on a regular basis by the end of the year. The goals include house, cooking, fitness & personal goals. I started at the beginning of the year with just a couple of easy goals, stuff like going to bed by 10:30 instead of 12, not compulsively eating after dinner, loading the dishwasher every night & adding a new recipe to my personal recipe book. Every week i add a new goal to to the list so that i can gradually build up the amount of things I'm doing while working them into my daily routine.
So far its going really well, but its not leaving lots of time to muck about online, so there have been sacrifices! I will still update every now & then & of course i will try to keep visiting my fave blogs!
Thanks for stopping by!
Mel :D

Lazy Me!
Saturday, 12 January 2008
Ive been very lazy over the whole chrissie/new years period, Ive hardly done any blogging at all!!! We have had a bit of an eventful time though. Christmas went well, we had a great time, New Years we spent in hospital, jet had temps that were up around 40 degrees, turns out they think it was just a viral thing, he didn't have any other symptoms at the time.
About a week ago we were walking along the foot path at the beach, Jet was holding an apple in his hand & then decided he wanted to grab onto the dogs lead too. The dog started walking faster & Jet lost balance, he could of let go of either the apple or the lead but noooooo he didn't want to do that did he, so...he face planted right into the concrete. He grazed up his nose pretty good but apart from that he was ok. I swear if we had a video camera we could of won a great prize on funniest home videos - it did look really funny when he did it (such a bad parent, i know!!!). Anyway, his face has healed so quickly, he only has one tiny little bit of the scab left!
Then the other day he woke us up in the morning & when Rocky got him out of his cot he noticed a big red smear on his sheet, & a red patch on the back of Jets head, we thought he must of cut himself or cracked his head open or something through the night, but he had been in & out of our bed all night & there was nothing on our sheets. I got him up & was looking for a cut & then i noticed his hair was really more orange than red, & realised that he must off chucked up the coff syrup i gave him then rolled his head in it - ewwww! its a natural one to with honey in it so it was all sticky!
i think that's about it, except that we all have the flu now - lol, at least we are getting all this stuff over at the beginning of the year right? All smooth sailing from here on in!

Happy 1st Birthday Baby Boy!!!
Saturday, 15 December 2007
Jet turned one today *sob*, i cant believe the past year has gone by so quickly. Before Jet was born i couldn't imagine just how much life would change, i didnt think it was possible for it to change that much! Now i cant even really remember what it was like without him, its like hes always been part of our little family!!!
Over the past year there has been lots of giggles, stacks of smiles & something new every day. There have been tears & tantrums (both mine & jets) & many many many sleepless nights. There have been snuggles & hugs, kisses & bites. Ive had my fare share of both baby vomit & poop on me, not always at the most convenient time. We have taught Jet a little & he has taught us alot. There has been a whole year of breastfeeding, a whole year without 8 hours of solid sleep & a whole year of gazing into his eyes in amazement as i watch him grow & learn.
Happy Birthday Little Man - We love you more than you will ever know!!!!!
Here I am with Jet one year ago today, all wrinkly & newbornish, ohhhhhhh:
& here he is today walking around with his new blocks & waggon dump truck thing we gave him for his birthday, oh how much can change in a year!!!
I thought id stick these pics in to. We kept his placenta & brought it home then planted a tree on it (i have a pic of the placenta before it was planted to but it just looks like a big bloody piece of meat so i figured you didnt need to see that). in the first pic jet is about 2 or 3 weeks old & he is sporting one huge cloth nappy (we started with terry squares).

The Sun Finally Came Out!
Friday, 14 December 2007
We have had really shocking weather here the past week or so, raining, overcast, stormy. The other night there was lightning, thunder & hale. There were at least 3 strikes of lightning that were really close which was a little scary! Since that storm the phones have been out too, but the internet still works???
Anyway, wheres all this going? Oh thats right! Today was absolutely beautiful, sunny & warm, just gorgeous!!! So...it was the first day in at least a week that the washing got dry. I gave up on bringing it in & hanging it back out again & i got sick of piles & piles of clothes lying around the place so i was still doing all the washing & sticking it out on the line to get rained on. I had a whole clothes line full + two big clothes horses full aswell (the clothes horses are under cover though). So anyway, today all the washing got dry...YAY...hmmm but then i had to put over a weeks worth of washing away. This was the pile:It took me over an hour to put away & now im exhausted!!! Of to veg in front of the TV :D

Houston, we have a Pooroblem
Thursday, 6 December 2007
Today, has just been one of those days. You know the ones, where absolutely nothing goes right. Its doesn't have to be big things, its the little things that all add up & make you want to go sit in a cold dark corner & rock back & forward while singing happy songs to yourself. Stuff like spilling milk all over the floor, then the wheatbix & the washing getting rained on (for the 4th day in a row).
The thing that really pushed me over the edge today was that i put jet in his cot to have a sleep (which is a struggle in itself) then went back into his room 5 mins later cause he was kicking up quite a fuss & the first thing i noticed as i entered the room was this terrible smell. I thought "smells like someones done a poo". Then i looked over at Jet & his dummy was all yellow (normally white), & then i realised his face was too, & his t-shirt has smears all over it & the sheet & his cot - oh joy (come on, you can picture my face after already having a fantastic day, one of my eyes was probably doing that "im going to crack at any second" twitching thing).
Anyway, needless to say we both had very early showers today because there is just no other way to get a poo smeared baby clean - i just chucked Jet, still fully clothed, into the shower! As for the dummy, im afraid to say its on its way to dummy heaven.
Thankfully today is almost over, tomorrow i think ill go to the end of the bed & get out there, you cant get out of the wrong side of the bed if you get off the end of it can you? i guess technically its a side, but ill do it anyway just to be safe!

Movember Update
Sunday, 18 November 2007
Well Movember is half over so i thought id give you an update on how Rocky is doing. Here is a pic of him sporting his wonderful (i cant wait till movember is over!) moe:lol - looks like a mug shot. Is it just me or do moe's just seem to make people look weird/creepy? So far he has managed to raise $195 for mens health! Thanks very much to April from A Day in the Life for your contribution!!! If anyone would like to sponsor him you can either do it directly through the Movember website by credit card or you can donate via pay pal through the Chip In button on my side bar.

Jets First Birthday Party
Saturday, 17 November 2007
We had Jets first birthday party today, he wont actually be one for almost another month but my parents will be overseas then so we decided to have his party early. He was a bit grumpy & overwhelmed by all the people, but he went to sleep easily for once tonight!!! He had his first lolly (not sure where he got it from but when i saw it in his mouth he chewed it up & swallowed it quick smart) & some chocolate crackle (which his naughty grandma gave him!).
Here's a pic of him just before we sang happy birthday, he totally cracked it once we started singing! We were also lucky enough to have Jets uncle Larso back with us, he has been overseas since i was about 3 months pregnant or something so he only met Jet for the first time a couple of weeks ago. His fabulous girlfriend KC flew in a couple of days ago so its been wonderful getting to know her to. Can you tell they are brothers?
This is Rocky's cousin Corrie, the pics in here cause i made her a head thing with the calorimetry pattern & told her she had to pose for a pic so i could show you guys, not that you can see much of it, but i think it looked great!
This was jets fantastic cake, no it wasn't made by me *shock horror*, i figured Jet deserves one beautifully crafted cake in his life time & a family friend offered to make it (she is just fantastic at making novelty cakes - she did our wedding cake to, a sand castle - was so cute!):
We had a great day, as always there was way to much food though!

We're Back!!!
Friday, 9 November 2007
Yep, we made it back alive...few! We didn't make it camping the whole time though, i think it was 5 nights in total that we spent on two different islands. In the end the march flies got the best of us, there were stacks of them & they are massive, they leave you bleeding after they bite too!!! It was absolutely beautiful on the islands though. The second island we had all to ourselves & the snorkeling was fantastic, i only went out once due to my paranoia of massive sharks eating me. Cause it was just the two of us & Jet there only one of us could snorkel at once & i wasn't going to go out by myself, but some people showed up on a boat on one of the days so i went out when they were there. Rocky got to see a turtle & a ray while he was snorkeling - lucky duck! After we left the islands we went back to a caravan park & stayed in a very nice, clean, comfortable cabin.
Here's some pics:Me in my stinger suit carrying jet in the ergo (attempting to take a photo of us myself):

Pray for our safe return...
Monday, 29 October 2007
lol! Rocky, Jet & I are leaving tomorrow to go "adventure camping". What does that entail? Well...you take everything you need, including water & food for 10 days & a boat drops you off on an island that is totally deserted out in the middle of the ocean. So its just you, the national park your standing on & a hell of a lot of water.
The good news is its the beginning of the stinger season to so we cant even take jet in the water, yay! & we only get 5 litres of water per person per day so I'm not sure how we will go giving him a bath either - not that we are taking a bucket because we are only allowed 40kg of luggage between all of us flying up there. At least we will be using cloth nappies so we wont be carting 10 days worth of stinky grows sposies around with us (you have to take all your rubbish with you).
For the past couple of weeks people have been telling us all the wonderful stories of things that can go wrong, the best one is a friend of a friend getting dropped out on an island by a boat, then the guy that dropped them out there had a heart attack through the week & didn't tell anyone he was meant to pick them back up & they were stranded there for an extra 2 weeks with no food or water - fantastic!
Rocky's friend lent us this little dovalacki called an EPROM or something, its some emergency response thing that you set off & it notifies all the military, police, air force (& anyone else in the area) that you need urgent assistance you know, just in case we get bitten by a brown snake, stung by a box jelly fish, attacked by a shark or all of the above.
I might just mention at this point that i have a phobia of sharks. I started watching Jaws when i was 3 (that doesn't have anything to do with it though...noooooo). I'm absolutely fascinated by them but i respect their awesome killing power way to much to go anywhere near their domain. Rocky is taking us to that island because of the awesome snorkeling you can do at the reefs, but cause jets with us only one of us can go out at a time & there is no way on earth I'm going out to be shark bait all by my self!
anyway, wish us luck (rocky always has to drag me kicking & screaming to these things but i normally have a fantastic time).
Hopefully ill be back in 10 days to tell you all about it.

Sleep Issues
Saturday, 20 October 2007
Whoever made up the term "sleeping like a baby" obviously didn't have kids!!!
Jet is going through such a rough patch with sleep at the moment. He is sleeping in with us because as soon as you lean over to put him into his cot he starts screaming. It wasn't always this way, he even went through a stage where he would put himself off to sleep without so much as a squeak, but that was really only for a couple of weeks. Now i either have to hold him or lie down next to him to get him to go off & he screams bloody murder the whole time! & if i try & put him down or get off the bed he wakes up & we start all over again.
Maybe its just a phase, he has 3 teeth on the bottom & 3 on the top so I'm sure there are two teeth that are going to come through soon & he has a really snotty nose at the moment so maybe its just that but its driving me up the wall!
Oh well, there's no quick fix. I have the no cry sleep solution book which i read when jet was only a couple of weeks old so i should get that out & read it again. I'm off to start another sleepless night - at least it will be full of cuddles!

Gym Junkie In The Making - lol
Tuesday, 16 October 2007
I joined a gym yesterday! i wasn't planing on joining but rocky & i went down to one of the local gyms & got suckerd in by all the 'special deals' they had that were only valid for that day (what a coincidence!!!). Anyway, im really glad i joined up.
I have a confession(which is already on my blog somewhere), I currently weigh 15 kilos more than i did when i got pregnant with jet (insert blushing smiley here) which is totally shocking. i initially lost about 5-7 kilos then somehow (nothing to do with my chocolate to exercise ratio) managed to put it back on. I haven't been to worried about it because i am still breastfeeding & jets nutrition is more important but he is on solids now & its time i start thinking about my health.
Anyway, Rocky decided to do some gardening late yesterday afternoon so i handed him the sling & the baby & told him i was off to the gym! i got there just as a class was about to start - it was called body attack, not an appealing name for my very first class but i figured id give it a go.
I couldn't wipe the smile off my face while i was waiting for the class to start (it got wiped of pretty quickly once it started though, hard to pant & smile at the same time). its just so nice to do something just for me, something that pre-baby would have seemed like a chore now feels like a treat for me. The class was very punishing, i lasted until about 1/2 way through going full ball then just fudged the rest.
Im well aware that i look like a blob running around in unfashionable gym wear with a bright red face, very unappealing especially next to the highly toned & defined bodies of the gym junkies, but you know what, i dont care! im just happy to be doing something for me & i have plenty of denial to get me past the image issues for now ;)
What i really love about this gym is that they have a steam room. I didnt even know steam rooms existed, i love saunas (which they have also) so i was excited about being able to use that regularly, but i think ill be living in the steam room. i dont even feel sore after yesterdays thrashing. They have an aromatherapy relaxation room too - cool!
The down side is that ive been up since 2.30 am, i was buggered so i went to bed at 8.30 which is unheard of for me, normally i cant get to sleep till 12ish. But my body just isnt programmed for sleep anymore so 2.30 rolled around & i was wide awake. Guess i should be getting some housework done instead of playing on the computer!

Photos & Saturday Stuff
Sunday, 7 October 2007
Its been way to long since ive put any new pics up so here are just a couple. First off, i thought this was a funny pic of jet, not quite sure what he is doing with his face & he is wearing a shirt rocky made for him which says "i love boobies" These are some pics of Rocky's dream property. The little shack on it is so cute, even has its own tank, its only about 4m x 2m though, very small:
Saturday was quite a day for me. I love ikea but i never get to go there because its so far away & rocky hates it, so since we were staying in Sydney & i had the day to myself i just had to go. I had jet in the ergo sling & i bought way to much stuff so on my way out i was carrying a huge heavy bag full of ikea goodies. i thought id stop for a smoothie because i didnt eat breakfast, Jet grabbed the straw out of my cup as i was walking away from boost juice though & while trying to ressle it back from him i stuck my finger through the foam cup & managed to spill smoothie all over both of us. Then i completely lost the car, i just couldn't find the entry i came in, i tried two & they looked totally different but i walked around looking for the car anyway, eventually i stuck the heavy ikea stuff in a trolley & stopped to calm my nerves, then realised that i came up the escalator - doh! I was so happy to get all the stuff in the car, i almost drove off with what was left of my smoothie on the roof though, just one of those times where everything totally overwhelms you!
Anyway, after that i went to the parenting Australia expo. I had a bit of a fight with the GPS on the way, she (my parents named her Evon) gets confused sometimes & tries to send you down one way streets etc. The expo was ok, nothing special & there weren't any cloth nappies there! All in all i had a great day, its always nice spending a day in the city - just one though, im always happy to get back home!

Property Hunting
Friday, 5 October 2007
Today we went & checked out two beautiful acreage's. One 25 acres that is zoned as conservation land, It was really just 25acres down hill full of aussie bush & i doubt you could get a building permit through on it, pitty because it was beautiful. The other was 40acres & you need a boat to get there, its right on the river front, a little more cleared land than the other one although it is still hilly. Plenty of water around & solar power probably wouldn't be a problem there, its facing north. Rocky is totally in love with the second property, its only about 300k out of our price range! better go & buy a lotto ticket!!!
I think we really need to be clear about what we want. If we are looking at an acreage we would need to build a house on it (definitely cant afford one with a house already there!). Or we could get just a block with a beat up house on it & renovate (both our dads are builders - lucky them!). lots to think about! ill upload pics of the second property in a couple of days, we are staying down in Sydney tonight at a friends house so i haven't hooked the camera up.
I'm off to the Parenting Australia expo tomorrow, hope there's some cloth nappies there!!!

We're Up!
Thursday, 4 October 2007
Jet has just started pulling to stand as of yesterday, hes only done it a couple of times so far, he has to be in the right position to get up there, he still isn't crawling yet although he does do a commando type crawl & a bit of a but shuffle.
Heres a little vid of jet pulling up for the second time ever on his own. Its pretty crappy footage because it was filmed from my mobile & just as a warning turn the sound down because i get a bit excited when he stands up & it gets very loud very quickly.
